I came to this forum to learn BUT, i am a little tired of
I think film xxxxxxx is xxxxxxx , what do you think ?
Blockbuster X is xxxxxxx, what do you think.
I know Ive been guilty of answering these posts But, having thought about it....
Most Hollywood related movies are designed to put bums on seats ( or speficically - make money ) especially since ET and Star Wars made so god dam much money
As a result, they are usually in your face mindless dross with lots of amzing effects/pretty pictures.
Usually, theve blown the budget after making 70% and the story turns to crap ( independace day, armageddon, star wars 1, etc ) because to do it properly cost money
now Blair witch was crap. BUT gotta take my hat of to the makers - they made it ( ie a living from indei movie making ) :-o
el mariachi was poorly shot/lit - of course it was - BUT gotta take your hat off to the makers - he's making a living at it :-o
evil dead etc was pants BUT ............
Get the point, we make ( hope/like/want ) a good movie, get noticed and make some hollywood monster and live on a warmer island than this one. !
Lets not keep kicking it around. lets talk about making good indie story telling movies.
:-)
( SFX cost money - bullet time costs lots of it - so its not happening in your movie. so just over crank and pretend . )
( not clones of reasonable horrors like Friday the 13th, or Psycho etc. Zombie movies had their day - but try a plot ( zombie movies are like porn - no story , repetative action - and you get bored after watching two of them.) :-(
rant rant rant.
anyway, what do I know - im only Human. lest thats what the label says
;-)

I have to agree Grizzly...
My own acidic criticisms in the last couple of `critic` posts reflect my discomfort with the kind of hero worship that goes on in this forum. Like Chance I'm interested in MAKING. But, fortunately, most people who want to be directors never get beyond the verbage... hence this forum.
Film criticism is for fools who believe that the more they read the better films they'll make. Criticism and theory, in my mind, only serve one purpose... to delay the doing and to bog down ones preconceptions. If you didn't have criticism and theory and you just sat down and watched Citizen Kane with the eyes of a child you'd walk out half way through. These literary worlds only serve to polish turds into majestic master pieces.... see what they've done to art!?

C'mon it's just a bit of fun really...In an ideal world we'd be criticising each others films...now that would be constructive.

I haven't even seen Pearl Harbour, but slagging of Bay is like shooting fish in a barrel. Har-de-har, suckers.
